What a first week! We’ve weathered the weather just fine. Energy and enthusiasm remains high as the days have been relatively dry and we’ve been able to carry forth with our regular routine with all but few exceptions. All of our seven week campers have returned from their mid-summer wilderness trips and are helping to integrate our new campers.
On Monday, our new campers participated in our full-day orientation, touring the campus, learning about our activities, meeting the health center team (health checks!) and taking a quick swim (swim checks!).
On Monday evening, we played an all-camp game of Rocks, our version of capture the flag. The lower field was alive as the green and white chased each other back and forth.
Tuesday through Thursday was our first activity block. The range of opportunities for our campers is impressive, from sailing to farming to soccer to challenge/high ropes. The surprise activity of the week was sailing as the wind was perfect despite the otherwise wet and cloudy conditions. Friday will be our first Tent Day of the season with a wide variety of outings all over mid-coast Maine. The sun will be out for the first time this session, making it a perfect day for the beach, tennis clinic, nature field trip or sailing trip. Oh to be a camper at Chewonki!
